Obituary for Rita F. Wheeler
Rita F. Wheeler, 97, died Thursday at the Dawn Hill Nursing Home in Bristol. She was the wife of the late Thomas H. Wheeler. A life long resident of Rumford, she was a daughter of the late George and Irene (Doyle) McBride.
Rita worked for the New England Telephone Company for 38 years retiring in 1983 and was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers.
She was a lifelong communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Rumford and a long time volunteer for the Pawtucket Heart Health Study and the Miriam Hospital.
She leaves a son: Edward “Ted” Wheeler and his wife Mary, 4 grandchildren Courtney Sobocinski and her husband Joseph, Michael and Army 1st Lt. Mark Wheeler, and John Wheeler and his wife Jordan and two great grandchildren: Annie and Thomas. She also leaves a brother: Raymond McBride of Rumford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10am in St Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Ave. Rumford to which relatives and friends are invited and calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-6pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence. Social distancing and masks are required. Burial will be in Mt St. Mary Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
