Obituary for Reginald Campbell
Reginald L. Campbell passed away on the 18th of September 2018 in Providence, RI. Born on April 12, 1923 in Tiverton on the dairy farm of his grandfather, Joseph Martineau, he was the son of the late Oscar Paul and Laura (Martineau) Campbell. He was a graduate of the Durfee High School class of 1940, a former Postmaster of Tiverton, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps as a photographer attached to the 10th Photo Headquarters, 20th Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater and 8th Air Force on Okinawa. He also served as a photographer for the Tiverton Police Department and was a member of the East Tiverton Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and baking.
A lifetime member of the Putnam Phalanxe Centennial Legion, Reginald was also a past Commander of the Four Freedoms VFW Post 5757 and a former Master Mason of Lodge 264, both of Franklin, Nebraska. He was a member of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, was a lifetime member of VFW Post 5392 in Tiverton, served as High Priest of the Aquidneck Chapter No. 9 Royal Arch Mason Order in Portsmouth, RI from 1955-1956, and was a Charter Member of the Partner Club of the PGA Tour.
Reginald is the father of the late Reginald Campbell of Arizona, grandfather of the late Kristine Cude of Nebraska, and the brother of the late Leonard Campbell of Florida. He was the former husband of the late E. Marcella Ashton of Kentucky and the late Maxine M Garrett of Nebraska, and the long-time companion of the late Shirley M. Cory.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Cude (Dwight) and Mrs. Leanne Meyers (Allen) of Nebraska, granddaughters Cynthia Cude RN, Stephanie Cude, and Courtney Meyer MD, and grandson Brandon Meyer all of Nebraska, his great-grandchildren Tanell and Breelyn Smith of Pheonix, AZ and Allison Maxwell Meese of Hickman, NE, as well as Ms. Cory’s children Lynne, Jay, and Alana; grandchildren Adriana, Amanda, Becky, Ty, Sara, and Justin; great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Teagan, Logan, Hazel, Fitz, Wyatt, Freddie, and Zoe.
Reginald’s body has been donated to the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
