Obituary for Peter Anthony Pizzarello, MD
Peter A Pizzarello, MD. 77, of Providence, RI and Longboat Key, FL passed away peacefully on April 21, 2018. He was the youngest son of Lucille and Anthony Pizzarello of Fleetwood, NY. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Karen Hancock Pizzarello; his children Lisa Pizzarello Pryor and her husband Lawrence Pryor of Providence, RI, Laura Pizzarello Scott of San Francisco, CA, and Peter Pizzarello, Jr., M.D. and his wife Martha Pizzarello, M.D. of Providence, RI; his four grandchildren, Arden and Avery Pryor and Franklin and Anna Pizzarello; and his brother Donald J. Pizzarello, Ph.D. of Brooklyn, NY.
Peter graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School (1959), Fordham University (Phi Beta Kappa, 1963) and Saint Louis University Medical School (1967). He completed his Brown University Orthopedic Surgery residency at Rhode Island Hospital (1972), and he fulfilled his Vietnam War military obligation by serving as Major and Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Cutler Army Hospital, Fort Devens, MA (1972-1974). At the start of his long career, Peter performed surgery at Rhode Island Hospital and was an Assistant Clinical Professor at Brown University Medical School. He held staff privileges at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital and maintained his private practice, Orthopedic Services, on Admiral Street in Providence. Peter proudly served as a member of the Medical Advisory Board of R.I. Workers’ Compensation Court for 24 years and as President of the Medical Staff of Our Lady of Fatima Hospital (1995-1997). For more than 40 years, he skillfully and compassionately diagnosed and cared for people of all ages.
As a long-standing member of Metacomet Country Club and Longboat Key Club, Peter found great joy, friendships and appreciation of nature’s beauty in the game of golf. Peter had a quick wit and a keen sense of humor. He enjoyed the warmth of Longboat Key, FL., travelling—especially to Italy—singing and playing the piano.
Peter devoted his life to his family. He was so proud of each of his children and grandchildren, and the love they have for each other. His family was his greatest treasure and legacy, and his memory will always be with them.
