Obituary for Neida Q. Ogden Dimeo
Neida Q. Ogden Dimeo, MD, 93, died on Thursday at Hallworth House in Providence. She was the wife of the late Alexander J. Dimeo.

She was a pediatrician, with an office in Westerly, practicing into her late sixties. Upon closing her practice in Westerly, she worked at the Providence Community Health Centers in Providence, retiring at eighty-six. She was deeply committed to her patients and practiced throughout her long career with compassion and dedication. She was a graduate of the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Vassar College and McGill University Medical School in Montreal, Canada. She not only had a great love for science and the natural world but was a classicist, reading ancient Greek and Latin and was an avid reader, a passion which she maintained with vigor throughout her life. Dr. Ogden was prominent in many civic and other organizations and was a member of the Rhode Island Woman's Medical Association, being named Physician of the Year in 2003.

Born in New York, New York she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Neida Quackenbush Ogden. She lived in South Kingstown for thirty-five years moving to Providence twenty-five years ago. In South Kingstown, Dr. Ogden and her late husband maintained a two hundred acre farm, an idyllic haven for their cherished family and friends, which Dr. Ogden maintained for many years after her husband’s death. She was an avid sailor, spending many afternoons on Narragansett Bay on her boat, “Quest” and was passionate about swimming, tennis and squash.

She is survived by her daughter and her beloved grandchildren, Alexander J. and Dimitrios A. Daskalopoulos all of East Greenwich and her son, Jonathan L. Q. Dimeo of Providence. She was the mother of the late Alexander P.O. Dimeo. Her legacy is a lifetime of devoted service, to her patients, community, and to her family.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 17 at 11am in the Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd. Providence. Donations in her memory may be made to Hallworth House, 66 Benefit Street, Providence, RI 02904.
