Nancy Ann Castro, 63, passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 28, 2026. A life-long Rhode Islander, Nancy spent the majority of her life in Riverside and the final decade in Bristol. She was the daughter of the late Bob and Tina Castro.
Nancy bravely faced many challenging health conditions for most of her life, including being paralyzed for two years and undergoing dialysis treatments for 18. She demonstrated endless resilience and strength and never complained, despite enduring frequent pain and discomfort. She was always willing to try a new treatment in order to improve her quality and quantity of life, even through her final days. While she will be missed terribly, her family is comforted by the knowledge that she is no longer suffering.
Nancy’s family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the East Providence Dialysis Center and Franklin Court Assisted Living, both of which were a large part of Nancy’s life. She made friends with everyone she met, forming lasting bonds with those around her. As an especially long-standing patient at the Dialysis Center, Nancy was extremely grateful for their excellent care. Nancy was an active member of the Franklin Court community, enjoying frequent outings, running the Sunshine Club, and being a part of the Resident Council. She loved the staff and fellow residents dearly.
An avid sports fan, Nancy was a dedicated fan of all New England sports, especially the Red Sox and Bruins. She enjoyed weekly phone calls with her nephew to discuss players, trades, and how the teams could improve.
Above all, Nancy treasured time spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her loving sisters, Paula and Lisa Castro (David), her beloved niece and nephew, Grace and Benjamin Senra, as well as an aunt and many cousins and close friends. She was exceptionally close with Paula, Grace, and Ben, who took attentive and loving care of her in her final days.
In one last act of selflessness, Nancy has donated her body to furthering research at Brown University’s medical school, helping to educate the next generation of doctors and caregivers. Per her request, a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends are invited to share happy memories. To truly honor her legacy, spend time with loved ones, show gratitude to those around you, and meet each day with a smile.
