He was the husband of the late Suzanne (Dursin) Cross and brother of the late Harry King Cross, Jr.
Born in Boston, MA, David was the son of the late Harry King Cross and Regina Vachon Cross of Providence. He resided on the East Side of Providence for most of his life and was a summer resident of Dennis, MA, since childhood.
David attended Moses Brown and later graduated from The Taft School in Watertown, CT. He went on to Yale University and was a member of the Class of 1960. He received an MBA from Providence College in 1998.
He was an avid tennis and squash player, and excelled in track and field at Yale where he competed in the NCAA and Olympic Trials in the hammer throw.
After graduation, he was a Navigator in the Air National Guard. He worked for the Rhode Island Tool Company and was Owner and President of Apco Mossberg in Attleboro, MA, for many years.
David was a long-time member of the Hope Club and the Agawam Hunt Club, as well as Mashantum Tennis Club in Dennis, MA.
He leaves four daughters: Suzanne Cross Foxley of Riverside, Alexandra Davidson Cross of Barrington, Marilyn Cross Piedra of Sherborn, MA, and Virginia Cross Marshall of East Greenwich. He also leaves four grandchildren: Lillian Cross Maloney, Charles Davidson Marshall, Margaret Cross Piedra, and Caroline King Piedra.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, at Saint Joseph’s Church, Hope Street, Providence. Burial will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to the Amos House of Providence, RI, Mashantum Tennis Club of Dennis, MA, or Dennis Conservation Trust of Dennis, MA.
