Obituary for Mitchell A. Robbins
Providence: Robbins, Mitchell A., 73, of Sheldon St., died Monday at home. He was the husband of Maureen (Renquin) Robbins.
Born in Brooklyn NY a son of the late Louis and Helen (Hershik) Robbins, he was a Providence resident for over 50 years.
He was the manager of Adult Social Services at R.I. Hospital for 15 years retiring on 2003.
An avid opera lover, he studied under Boris Goldovsky and had been the stage director for Bel Canlo Opera here in Providence and was a founder of OpRI.
He had also taught English Country Dance for the Boston Center of Country Dance and Song Society.
He was a graduate of R.I. College and received his masters from Boston University.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons: Peter Martin Robbins (Kadian) and Jesse A. Robbins both of Cranston, 2 daughters: Miriam N. (Shawn) Gamache, Celia C. Winfield both of Providence, a sister: Amy Fischer of Laconia, NH and 14 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday starting at 9:30 in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Joseph Church, Hope St. Providence. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Home and Hospice Care of R.I. or to Adoption R.I..
