Providence: Michael St. A. Boyer, 83, a Providence resident for over 60 years, died Tuesday at the Summit Commons in Providence. He was the husband of Lorraine Beaudoin (Pelletier) Boyer.
He was born in Denver, Co, a son of the late Julia (Kiestler) and Livingston Boyer. Michael came to Brown University in the 1960's, graduated in '68, and never left. He was founder and President of Cascade Designs in Providence before retiring. He was a passionate craftsman, prolific creator, woodworker, and loved restoring old houses.
An avid skier, he dedicated 50 years of his life to volunteer service with the National Ski Patrol, and spent over 35 years with the Tuesday night crew at Blue Hills in Canton, MA. He is credited with saving 3 lives during his time with NSP. He loved sailing, the beach, and photography, even capturing iconic moments such as those during the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago. Many summers he could be found sailboat racing with close friends and family around Narragansett Bay, or feeding the seagulls that once saved his life. He dedicated many years to Boys Scout Troop 28, and worked hard at making their pancake breakfast a huge success. Mikey was a “Jack of All Trades and a Master of Many”. At home, and to some his friends he was known as "Mechanical Mike,"
Besides his wife he leaves 4 sons: Matthew Charles Boyer (Cheryl) of Thousand Oakes, CA, Joshua Ridner (Marisol) of San Antonio, TX, Yeshua Boyer (Saveria) of Walden, VT and Nicholas Boyer (Elora) of Cabot VT. Brothers: Livingston Cole of East Hampton, CT, David Cole of Charlottesville, VA, Frank Cole of Branford, CT, and Phillip Holland (Judith Fontana) of Goleta, CA and 6 grandchildren Maia, Oria, Indriel, Linden, Gaian and Inti Boyer.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday December 11th at 10am in St., Joseph Church, Hope St. Providence.. Calling hours Sunday December 10th from 2-5pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 210 Taunton Ave., East Providence.
