Maybury V. Fraser, 86, died on April 28, 2016 at home in Providence. She was the daughter of Adelaide Brown Viall and Richmond Viall. She was predeceased by her husbands H. Gordon Fraser and
Maybury attended Lincoln School in Providence, and as her mother before, graduated from the Westover School in Middlebury, Connecticut before attending Garland Junior College in Boston.
A life long resident of Providence, she was the previous owner of Ms, an Eastside gift store and Providence institution. She was a member of the Dunes Club, the Hope Club and the Agawam Hunt Club. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of Rhode Island and on many Saturdays could be found as a docent at the Stephen Hopkins House in Providence. She served on many boards and with charitable organizations, always dedicated to improving the lives of others and the city she loved.
Her wonderful spirit, kindness towards others and love of animals will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children Nathaniel R. Tingley, Jr. and his wife Alice of Providence, Adelaide M. Tingley of Boston, and Perrin B. Tingley and her husband John Smalley of Chertsey, England. She was the grandmother to Nathaniel R. Tingley, III, Henry B. Tingley, Thurston S. Smalley and Owen G. Smalley.
Her funeral will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, May 4 at St. Martin’s Church, Orchard Avenue in Providence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Providence Animal Rescue League, 34 Elbow Street, Providence, RI 02903.
