Obituary for Marjorie Holmes
Marjorie P. Holmes, 87, of Seekonk, MA & Portsmouth, RI, died peacefully at her son's Los Angeles home Feb. 6. A wonderful wife and mother, her heart was filled with unconditional love, a passion for reading, and an adventurous spirit.
Born in Fall River, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Harry and Anne (Britland) Phillips. A graduate of BMC Durfee HS ('44) and Bridgewater State College ('48), she taught elementary school for 25 years beginning in East Hartford, CT, then Dighton, MA, and finally North School in Seekonk. Marjorie was married for 59 years to her late husband, Raymond. Together, they enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with family at their Portsmouth summer home.
She is survived by her children: Jennifer, Nancy, Karen, Robert, & Barbara as well as 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons. Marjorie also leaves behind her dear sister, Janice Fiedler; the sister of her heart, Ethel Lake; and beloved friends, Edwina Babiec and Vernon Wild. Her younger brother, Donald, preceded her in death.
Funeral will be Sat., Feb. 15 at 11AM in the Redwood Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Prov. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Seekonk Public Library, 410 Newman Ave., Seekonk, MA 02771.
