Obituary for Marilyn Schultz
Marilyn was born in Cambridge Massachusetts on January 19th 1932 to Mary Swan and Alexander Miller.   She was raised by her uncle Bill Miller and his sister Elsie Miller for the remainder of her childhood until she graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1949.   She graduated from Tufts College in 1953 with a BA in English Literature.  She married her husband John the day after she graduated, June 15th 1953.  Two years later Marilyn began teaching grades 3-5 in a two room school house on Simmonsville Ave in Johnston.   After Simmonsville she moved on to teaching 1st grade for several years at the Sarah Dyer Barnes School in Johnston.  In 1970 she accepted a job teaching 1st grade at the Henry Barnard School at Rhode Island College where she remained until her retirement in 1989.  Along the way she earned a MEd in 1970 from Rhode Island College, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from University of Connecticut in 1978 and a Phd from  the University of Connnecticut in 1986.  Upon retiring, she and John moved to Sandwich Massachusetts on Cape Cod where Marilyn became an active member of the Bayberry Quilt Guild.  She also taught quilting to novice quilters at Tumbleweed Quilts in West Barnstable.   During her lifetime Marilyn was an avid traveler crossing the USA by car three times, and travelling extensively in Egypt, China, England, Scotland and the Iberian Peninsula.
She is survived by her husband John, her son Eric and her grandsons, Mack and Paxton Major.
Her family will be holding a celebration of her life on February 1st at 11:00 am in the Providence Friends Meeting House, 99 Morris Ave, Providence RI, 02906.   There will be a light luncheon served immediately following the ceremony.  Dress for the occasion is business casual.   Parking for the Providence Friends Meeting House is on-street only.
