Obituary for Marie E. Clarke
Clarke, Marie E., 88, passed away Tuesday at The Philip Hulitar Center. She was the wife of Dr. Banice M. Webber.
 Born in Vineland, NJ on August 22, 1927, daughter of the late John and Adeline Vraila, she was a Professor of Apparel Design at The Rhode Island School of Design from 1981-2000 and Adjunct Professor from 1976-1981. She served as Chief Critic, European Honors Program of The Rhode Island School of Design in Rome, Italy from 1997-1999, and retired as Professor Emerita in 2000.
Mrs. Clarke worked as a designer and / or consultant for various apparel companies in New York and New England, including India Imports in Providence and Bennett & Co. in Newburyport, MA.
She had been a member of The Costume Society of America, The Fashion Group International and was cited in Who’s Who of American Women.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her beloved children, son Andrew Clarke of Chicago and his wife, LaDoris Duncan, and daughter Helene Clarke Lasker and her husband Eric, and grandchildren Carl and Justin Lasker.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 1pm in the Historic Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd to which relatives and friends are invited. Â Calling hours respectfully omitted.
