Obituary for Margaret Helen McMahon
Margaret Helen (Kelly) McMahon died peacefully at home on Sunday after a long illness. She was the wife of the late John J. McMahon.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Earl F. and Helen (Fisher) Kelly.
Mrs. McMahon was a devoted member of the parish of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. She served as a lector at the church for many years, taught CCD classes, and was the children’s librarian at St. Mary’s School for over 30 years until the school closed in 2009. She received a Centennial Award from the Diocese of Providence for service to the parish in 1992. She attended high school at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Elmhurst, in Providence, and was an active member of the Alumnae Association. She graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, where she majored in biology, and received the Gloria Gaines Memorial Alumna award for service to the college in 2000.
She is survived by her children Margaret McMahon, Maureen McMahon (Doron Goldman), John McMahon (Susan McLaughlin), Earl McMahon (Dina Plapler), Peter McMahon, her sisters-in-law Freddie Kelly and Judy McMahon, and grandchildren Caitlin, Liam, Jack, David, Steven, Andrew, Sarah, Ethan Blum (Jena), Daniel Blum (Aime) and great grandchildren Caleb and Colton Blum, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her brother Earl and sister-in-law Patricia Kelly, her brother Harold Kelly, and her sisters Dorothy and Helen Kelly.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 9:45 from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 2300 Waterman St., providence with a Mass of Christian burial in St Mary Church, Pine St at 11am. Burial will be in Mt St Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mary’s parish, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket, RI, 02860.
