Obituary for Maggie Lambert
Maggie Lee Lambert was born on January 24, 1918 in Atmore, Alabama, daughter of the late Elmore and Augusta (Dixon) Ridgeway. She was the oldest of eleven children.
She accepted Christ at an early age where she was united and baptized at the Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore. While attending Mount Triumph, she met and married the late Deacon Paul James Lambert. To this union five children were born. Deacon and Deaconess Lambert were married for over 53 years until his death in 1989.
In 1943, Deaconess Lambert moved to Providence, RI with her husband due to being stationed at the Newport Navy Base. Upon their arrival in Providence they united with the Ebenezer Baptist Church where she participated in Sunday School, Bible Study, the East Side Ladies Club and later became a Deaconess.
Mrs. Lambert was employed for many years with the Arden Jewelry Co. in Providence and later worked along-side her sister in-law the late Ethel Lambert at Kay’s Big Bundle Laundromat on the east side of Providence.
Deaconess Lambert was best known for her gentle spirit, her love for word search puzzles, baseball, her great love of cooking and caring for her family. She leaves to cherish and honor her memory one daughter; Grace Sills of Cranston, three sons; Tshombe (Linda) Lambert of East Providence, Curtis (Marie) Lambert of North Port, Florida and Edleroy Lambert of Providence. Deaconess Lambert was the loving “grandma”, “nana” and “grandma Maggie” to fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Two sister-in-laws Dolores Ridgeway of Detroit, Michigan, and Evelyn Taylor of Miami, Florida as well as a host of nieces, nephews and her close friends; Deaconess Beatrice Garrick, Deaconess Manda Parham and Sister Josephine Harris.
She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Paulinda Lambert as well as one sister; Bernice Johnson and nine brothers; Henry, Troy, Elmore, George, Clarence, Nathaniel, Robert, James and RL Ridgeway.
Funeral service Thursday at 11am in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cranston St. Providence with visitation starting at 10am. Burial will be in North Burial Ground
