Obituary for Laura S. Cutler
Cutler, Laura S. (Stone) 95, of Little Compton, formally of Barrington passed away Tuesday, March 23rd at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late John W. Cutler.
Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Harold D. and Hope M. (Comstock) Stone. She was a longtime resident of Barrington before moving to the family home in Little Compton over 30 years ago.
She attended The Lincoln School grades K thru 12, graduating in 1942. She received her BA from Mount Holyoke College and received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmons College. She was a life member of the Providence Art Club. Laura was a parishioner of St. Andrews By-The-Sea and served this church in many capacities.
Laura’s life was largely defined by family and her love of the ocean. She had her first sailboat at a very young age and owned boats her entire life. She and her late husband John cruised extensively on the east coast. She was a long time member of the New Bedford Yacht Club.
She leaves a son, John W. Cutler, Jr. and his wife Cathleen C. of Redding, CT and a daughter, Sally S. Cutler of Scituate, MA and a grandson, Jeremy W. Cutler also of Redding, CT. In addition, she leaves Christina J. McCabe of Scituate, MA.
A service will be held Monday at 11am in the Historic Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Andrews By-The-Sea, PO Box 491, Little Compton, RI 02837 or Friends of Sakonnet Lighthouse, Po Box 154, Little Compton, RI 02837.
