Obituary for Laura Marie Kaplan

Laura Marie (Viola) Kaplan, 55, of Medway, MA, peacefully passed away June 10, 2023, in her home, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with leiomyosarcoma, a rare cancer.

Born in New York City and raised in Monsey, NY, she was the daughter of Sylvia and the late Anthony Viola. Laura was a graduate of UMASS Amherst, where she met the love of her life, her husband Rick. In Laura’s work as an executive assistant, she focused on helping others through her warmth, amazing creativity, incredible organizational qualities, attention to detail, and thoughtfulness.

From travels in Italy to connect with her family ancestry and visits to Scotland to immerse herself in her favorite TV series “Outlander”, Laura loved adventures big and small. She loved spending time at her “happy places”, Loon Mountain and Cape Cod with her husband, kids, family, and many friends. Laura brought beauty into all of these spaces through her artistry, transforming old furniture into wonderful “homey” decor.

For Laura, everything centered around family. From home cooked meals to heartfelt, personal gifts, her family always felt her love. There was nothing she loved more than being mom to her two sons, the lights of her life.

Devoted wife of Rick Kaplan.

Loving mother of Jeremy and Drew Kaplan.

Cherished daughter of Sylvia and Anthony Viola.

Treasured sister to Ann Walsh and brother (in-law) Jay Walsh.

Beloved daughter (in-law) of Helen and Bob Kaplan

Sister of heart (in-law) to Jenny Kaplan

Adored Aunt of her many nieces and nephews.

Loved by her many friends.

Her family will be hosting visiting hours to share stories and hugs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:00-6:00 pm at their home.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Laura’s life on Friday morning at 11:00 am at Heritage of Sherborn, 33N Main St, Sherborn, followed by lunch.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Laura’s memory to Jeff’s Place Children’s Bereavement Center in Framingham, MA or Dana Farber Cancer Institute- sarcoma research.
