Obituary for Journala M. Harrison
Journala M. Harrison, 87, formerly of North Providence and Florida died peacefully Thursday surrounded by her children at the Scandinavian Home in Cranston. She was the wife of the late Joseph Harrison.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Creamer) McOsker.
Journala, known as Junie or Jan, was a graduate of St Xavier Academy and the R.I. College of Education. She taught briefly in R.I. before moving to Brevard County, FL in 1961. It was there she raised her family and was a teacher at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School. In 1998 she moved back to R.I.
She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and was fond of novels that centered around World War II. She had a great sense of humor, loved all things Irish and especially loved her family.
She leaves two sons: Joseph Harrison Jr. (Jessica) of Torrance, CA, Anthony Harrison (Jennifer) of North Kingstown, daughter Kelley Pistacchio (Paul) of North Providence, her grandchildren: Ethan, Ella, Elias and Jaden Harrison and daughter-in-law Jill Harrison of Indialantic FL. She was the mother of the late Daniel J. Harrison.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10am in the Church of the Presentation, Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial will be in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours Monday 4-7pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 210 Taunton Ave. East Providence. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the R.I. Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, PO Box 41659, Providence R.I. 02940.
