Obituary for Joseph T. Duffy
Joseph T. Duffy, passed away on February 12, 2019 in Los Angeles, California after a long illness with Melanoma.

Mr. Duffy was born in Providence, Rhode island on May 14, 1946 to Austin J. and Elizabeth Neary Duffy. He was educated at Blessed Sacrament School in Providence and graduated from La Salle Academy.

Mr. Duffy graduated from Bryant University in 1969. Following graduation Mr. Duffy enlisted as an airman in the Rhode Island Air National Guard serving until 1975.
Mr. Duffy was a Trust Officer at State Street Bank in Boston where he became an experienced investment officer. He left State Street Bank to join Fleet Bank in Providence, Rhode island which led him to move to California in 1977 to join Western Asset Management Company. From there he became Chief Investment Officer at First Interstate Bank and then became President of Chase Manhattan Bank in California. He joined the Private Bank at Bank of America, as the Chief Investment Officer where he remained until 2000 and then became the Managing Director at U.S. Trust Company until his retirement in 2002.

Mr. Duffy served as a trustee of Bryant University and he also served as President of Santa Maria Hospital and Foundation. In addition Mr. Duffy served on the board of the Hathaway Home for Children. He was also active in the National League for Nurses and the President of National Student Nurses Foundation in New York City and a longtime member of Los Angeles Athletic Club.

He is survived by his partner Kenneth R. Visger Jr. and his sister Mary Duffy of Rhode Island a niece and a nephew and his many cousins in both America and Ireland. He was the brother of the late Austin J. Duffy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Sebastian Church 67 Cole Ave. Providence, Rhode Mr. Duffy was born in Providence, Rhode island on May 14, 1946 to Austin J. and Elizabeth Neary Duffy. Island with calling hours in the church starting at 10am. . Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery Middletown.
