Obituary for John E. O'Brien
John E. O'Brien, 81, of Rumford, died Thursday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Boxold) O’Brien.
A lifelong East Providence resident, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Blessington) O’Brien.
John was a personnel officer for the Rhode Island Air National Guard  for 37 years retiring in 1988. He had also worked as a bartender for the former Mayfair Lounge in the Airport Plaza in Warwick.
He was a season ticket holder for Providence College basketball for over 50 years. He was also an avid golfer.
He leaves his children Thomas M. O’Brien and his wife Barbara Dailey of Foster. Colleen A. Sabourin and her husband Steven, John K. O’Brien and his partner Robin Maroney, Kelly A. O’Brien and her partner James Philips all of East Providence, Patrick A. O’Brien and his wife Gretchen of Smithfield and Charyn A. Sweet and her husband Richard of Nashua, New Hampshire. He leaves her grandchildren: Casey Dovale and her husband Matthew, Matthew Sabourin, Loren and Liam Dailey, Maggie and Kyleigh O’Brien and Emily and Caroline Sweet as well as a great granddaughter: Ava Dovale.
