Obituary for Jean G. Daly
Daly, Jean G., 87, of Adele Avenue, Rumford, former Vice President and Secretary of Paul Daly Real Estate died Monday surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Paul F. Daly, President and Treasurer of Paul Daly Real Estate. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Dr. Francis and Marie (Donovan) Garside, she lived in Providence before moving to Rumford when she was married. She was a resident of Anawan Cliffs in Narragansett for many years, and a former board member of the Anawan Cliffs Association. She was a graduate of Elmhurst Academy of the Sacred Heart and Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart. She received her Medical Secretary degree from Sweeney Business School and was employed in her father’s medical office until her marriage. She was a founder member of the Dunes Club where she served on the Entertainment Committee for many years and a former member of Point Judith Country Club. She was past President of the RI Chapter of the Elmhurst Alumnae and past President of the Elmhurst Alumnae Association as well as Treasurer of the Association. She was past President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Manhattanville Club of Rhode Island.
She was an active member of Saint Margaret Church, serving on several committees through the years, including the Parish Life Committee for many years, where she served as its Chairman. She was a Eucharistic Minister of Saint Margaret Church serving at Evergreen Nursing Home. She was a member of the Friends of Hospice of South County and a co-chair of the 1st RI Hospice Ball. She also served on committees to aid in funding for the Little Flower Home. She was on the committee for the Gala for the Franciscan Chapel and Wellness Center.
She leaves two daughters, Marie Daly Donahue (Robert) of Attleboro, MA and Anne Daly Williams (Andrew) of East Greenwich and one son, Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul F. Daly, Jr. (Julie) of Narragansett. She was the loving grandmother of Lauren, Colleen, Robert, Robbie, Katie, Meghan, Tyler, Ryan and Kyle. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was devoted to her family and a very active part of their daily lives. She was an avid bridge player for many years. She was sister of the late Patricia G. Dunn and mother of the late Francis P. Daly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 29 at 10 am in St. Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling Hours are Friday 4-7 pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman St., Providence. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Margaret School, 42 Bishop Avenue, Rumford, RI.
