Obituary for Jane Murphy

Jane Murphy

September 5, 1943 - February 2, 2025. Daughter of Donald Landry and Helen Landry of Fall River, MA. Wife to the late Terry Murphy. Mother to Shawn P. Murphy, & Katie Gugino and the late Chris Murphy.. Sister to Susan Landry Grandmother to Patricia Murphy, Ryan Murphy, & Isabelle Gugino  Cousin to Jeff & Diane Pontiff, David Ronan, Eric & Janine Pontiff

Sister in law to Kathy & Tim Love and Mother in Law to Laura Jones Murphy & Paul Gugino

My mother & father were soulmates. They shared a beautiful marriage of over 50 years and now these two souls are at peace together once more.

My Mother loved to have a good time! Birthdays were never just birthdays - they had to have a theme! The house was always decorated for every holiday - even lesser celebrated ones like President's Day. And my Mother loved Elvis! I have a 1,000 memories of her getting excited over his movies or his songs. So it was only appropriate that she passed peacefully as her favorite Elvis movie, Blue Hawaii, was playing. Elvis' Hawaiian Wedding Song from that movie was her wedding song to my Dad.

My Mom was also a loving and dedicated caretaker for our family and friends. She had been a nurse in the operating rooms before she quit to start a family. And she used those skills for the rest of her life - starting with her father-in-law who was dying of pancreatic cancer. Then her own father, who was dying of emphysema. Then the one and only Aunt Babe, her mother's sister, who fell and broke her hip. My Mother care for her every day with love & patience for over 10 years. She also took in my Aunt's good friend Roland, while still caring for Aunt Babe.

Then, she got to be a caretaker for her grandchildren, Patty & Ryan, to help Shawn & Laura avoid those costly daycare prices. She lovingly watched them for about 8 years (I think?) and I truly believe this role was her favorite. She loved all children, but these weren't just any children, but HER first (and for a long time, her only) grandchildren.

And her last patient was my Dad after his stroke in Nov. 2016 and she continued that until he finally succumbed to cancer in December of 2023.

It has been over 30 years since my brother, Chris, has passed and I know that a piece of my Mom has always wanted to be with him since that day. So, it was not a surprise to me that she died at the same time he did 5 pm. I know it was a sign that he came to take her home. I find comfort that their souls with my loving father are reunited at last.

Services for my Mother will be in Rhode Island & Massachusetts because that is where we have a family grave, and she will be with my father & my brother. I am sorry there will not be any services in Virginia. Visitation will be in the funeral home at 210 Taunton Ave. in East Providence, RI from 3-5 on Tuesday February 11

Please message Monahan Drabble Sherman directly for details if you would like to attend.

In lieu of flowers, my Mom requested that a donation be made to Make a Wish Foundation. She loved the innocence and magic that children have and always believed there wasn't a better foundation on the planet than Make a Wish.
