Obituary for Jim Rekrut
Rekrut, James T., 74, passed away Sept. 5th at RI Hospital.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Patricia (Reilly) Rekrut. He had been a Cranston resident for many years. Jim was a self-employed auto wholesaler for many years before retiring. In later years, he was the vice president of the Laurel Hill Social Club.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving in military intelligence, stationed in the DMV obtaining the rank of Staff Sargent.
He enjoyed playing golf, scoring a hole-in-one, and was an avid New England sports fan. His children and grandchildren were his main focus, never missing a function or sporting event. His sense of humor will be missed.
He was the father of Chrystal Freeman of NY, James P. Rekrut of Cranston and Jennifer Girasole of Bedford, NH. He leaves their mother and former spouse, Charlotte A. Rekrut.
He was the brother of Joseph, Michael and Patricia Rekrut and the brother of the late Peter Rekrut. He leaves 5 grand daughters and a grandson and was the longtime companion of Sandra Bagdanovich.
His service will be held Saturday at 10am at the Ocean State Baptist Church, 600 Douglas Pike, Smithfield. Burial with military honors in St Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Donations in his memory may be made to Operation Stand Down, 1010 Hartford Avenue, Unit #1, Johnston, RI 02919 www.osdri.org
