Obituary for James J. Murray, jr.
James J. Murray II, 82, passed peacefully, surrounded by those who love him, on Nov. 27th, 2015. Born Oct. 3rd, 1933 in Providence, R.I. and formerly of Portsmouth, R.I., James lived in northern R.I. for the last twenty years where he retired as a civil engineer for J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. A graduate of La Salle and URI, James also proudly served his country during the Korean War. A quiet man and an excellent provider, he was the father of seven children, James J. Murray III, Karen E. Moody (Eric), Robert E. Murray (Denise), Michael D. Murray (Jeanne), Abby N. Beardwood (Allan), Edward J. Murray, Virginia B. Dionne (Scott) and the proud grandfather of Daniel, Ryan, Alyssa, Christopher, Victoria, Alexandra, Tyler, Brett, Ben, Eddie and Emma, and his great grandchildren, Cailin and David. He is the brother of Joseph F. Murray of Warwick, R.I. and his sister the late Barbara Anderson. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. James was the former husband of the late Nancy E. (Donnelly) Murray (Feb. 11, 2015). May they both rest in peace.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10am in the Lady Chapel of Holy Name Church, Camp St., Providence. Calling hours Wednesday 4-7pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Name Church, 99 Camp St. Providence, R.I., 02906.
