Obituary for James Henry Lynch III
JAMES H. LYNCH III, 79, of Providence, RI, passed away on February 10, 2015 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. James, or “Jim” as he was known by friends and family, was born in Providence to the late James and Alice (Conroy) Lynch. He graduated from Holy Cross in 1958 and studied journalism at Boston University. He started his career as a reporter at the Newburyport Daily News and was an editor at several newspapers before joining United Technologies Corporation. He was with that company for 19 years, finally as the Vice President of Public Relations at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT. After his retirement, Jim moved back to Rhode Island and began a more bohemian chapter: rereading the classics, writing his memoirs, selling his homemade jam and campaigning for President Obama. Through it all, he made people smile with his irreverent and witty commentary on life.
Jim is survived by his three children, Katherine Meneses, Lt. Col. James H. Lynch IV, and Sarah Lynch; six grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald T. Lynch and Stephen P. Lynch; and a sister, Constance Feely. He was also the brother of the late Paul D. Lynch, Ellen Diamond and Margo Bauer.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2 pm in the Redwood Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence.
