Obituary for Helen Daley
North Providence; Daley, Helen “Tish,” 88, died Saturday in the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the wife of the late Austin Daley.
Born in Providence a daughter of the late James and Helen (Salisbury) Orr, she was a North Providence resident for 10 years previously living in Pawtucket. She was a summer resident of Narragansett for many years.
Tish was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy class of 1944 and Pembroke College at Brown University class of 1948 and taught in the Pawtucket Public School System until she married Austin. She was an active member of the Brown Faculty Club, the Pembroke Club, and the St. Xavier Alumni Association. She was a competitive bridge player and avid reader. Tish was a beloved grandmother, tirelessly devoted to the care of her grandchildren.
She leaves a son James and his wife Katherine of Cranston and her grandchildren: Kyle, Ryan, Anna and Marikate. She was the mother of the late Daniel Daley and sister of the late Ann Picchione and John Orr.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9am from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in St Mary’s Church, Pine St., Pawtucket at 10am. Burial will be in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 5-8pm. Donations in her memory may be made to The Providence Center, 528 North Main St. Providence, R.I. 02904.
