Hannah Kip Edgerly, 52, died November 8, 2023 after a long illness. She is survived by her parents,
David Edgerly of London, England, and Elizabeth Edgerly of Providence and sister Louisa
Edgerly of Seattle, Washington and an extended family.
Hannah’s family moved to Rhode Island in 1975. She graduated from Classical High School,
attended Vassar College, and earned her B.A. from Brown University. After graduation she
worked in Rites and Reason Theatre and in Louie’s Restaurant, which she considered a badge of
honor. Hannah participated actively in The Spoken Word poetry gatherings. In the 2000s, she
lived in the Berkshires where she acted at the Lavender Door Theatre in Stockbridge,
Massachusetts and continued to participate in the local poetry scene. She tutored students at
Berkshire Community College and also worked in a local bookstore. She was happiest in
bookstores, libraries and coffee shop conversations.
Hannah returned to Providence in 2015 and continued writing. In 2018 she was a finalist in an
online writing competition organized by the Ireland Writing Retreat and went to Donegal, Ireland
to participate in one of their workshops. Other travel included visits with her father in London
and Turkey. During the pandemic she extended social interaction through the Internet. She
enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons remotely with a group of supportive friends in the
Berkshires.
A gathering in celebration of Hannah’s life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, 3:00 –
