Obituary for Gloria Beckman
Beckmann,Gloria nee Rice, died February 26, 2015 at age 84. Gloria was born and raised in Minnesota, she attended Pembroke College and earned a degree in music education at the University of Minnesota. After teaching and playing violin in the Hormel Caravan, she married Martin Beckmann. Gloria and Martin were married for 58 years and raised four children. They lived in Providence and in Bonn and Munich, Germany and typically spent part of each year in the US and in Germany.
Gloria was an accomplished violinist who played in the Rhode Island Philharmonic and enjoyed playing chamber music with friends. Gloria had an exceptionally warm and friendly personality and was much loved by all her friends and family.
She will be sorely missed by her husband, Martin, her children Sybilla, Carl, Chantal, and Gwendolyn, her eight grandchildren, her sister Marilyn Bray, and her many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A private family service will be held.
