Obituary for Ernest S. O'Connor
ERNEST S. O'CONNOR 77, died on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Miriam Hospital in Providence. A Providence resident for his entire life, Ernie was the son of the late Patrick and Bridie (McKenna) O'Connor, and the brother of the late John P. O'Connor. Ernie graduated from Hope High School where he was a first team all state hockey player and the captain of their 1956 Rhode Island State Hockey Championship Team. He was a veteran, and he served in the United States Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1958, but he continued to serve as a reserve until 1966. In his professional life, Ernie served on the Board of Licenses for the city of Providence and he was an administrator for the Providence Public School System's food program. He is survived by his sister-in-law; Elizabeth J. O'Connor of Providence, and his two nephews: Sean O'Connor and his wife Marguerite of Wilton, CT along with their children Quinn and Grace, and Brendan O'Connor and his wife Julie of New York City along with their son Jackson. The funeral and burial were Private. Donations in his memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
