Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Mullaney
Elizabeth T. Mullaney (Betty), 92, of Providence died peacefully at home on Friday.
She was a lifelong resident of Providence and Jupiter, Florida. She was the daughter of the late James Mullaney and Mary (Walsh) Allison.
Betty worked for New England Telephone Company starting as a file clerk and retiring as a District Manager Tariffs for NYNEX.
She was a graduate of Classical High School and a member of the first Senior Girl Scout Troop in RI. Betty was also life long communicant at St. Sebastian Church.
She served as a member of the first Governor's Commission on the Status of Women. Throughout her life, Betty was also a member of many civic organizations
including: RI Historical Society, RI Senior Legislature, Providence Preservation Society, World Affairs Council and Nature Conservancy.
She was a devoted volunteer to the Red Cross, McAuley House and Roger Williams Park Zoo.
Betty’s leaves behind her beloved brother, James; her nephews, James, John (Eileen), and Kevin; her nieces, Kathleen, Patricia (Howard) and Jeanne.
She was predeceased by her niece, Mary Colleen Mullaney. She also leaves behind many cousins and great nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11am, St Sebastian Church, Cole Ave., Providence. Call hours Wednesday 4-6pm at the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence.
