Obituary for Elizabeth "Bette" Bennett
Elizabeth Hayes Bennett of Pawtucket, 91, died Saturday at the Waterview Villa in East Providence surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Providence a daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys (Clark) Hayes, she lived in Pawtucket for 54 years previously living in Edgewood for 20 years.
Bette was a graduate of St Xavier’s Academy, St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in Washington DC. She worked as a pediatric manager and teacher at St. Joseph Hospital for seven years. She then worked as a nurse at Miriam Hospital for 32 years and spent 2 years as a visiting nurse in Pawtucket before retiring.
She leaves her children: Martha Saucier of Pawtucket, Charles A. Bennett of Narragansett, Michael Bennett of Cranston, Stephen Bennett of Newport and Carol Winter of Exeter and 10 grandchildren. She also leaves a brother: Arthur Crain of Framingham and was sister of the late Doris Johnson.
Bette’s family would like to thank the staff of Waterview Villa for the kindness shown to their mother during her stay there.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9am from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Pine St., Pawtucket at 10:30am. Calling hours Tuesday 4-7pm. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, 200 High Service Ave., North Providence, R.I. 02908 or to Meals on Wheels, 70 Bath St., Providence, RI 02908.
