Obituary for Elena A. Smith

Elena A. Smith, 89, formerly of Tryon Ave. East Providence, died Wednesday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. She was the wife of the late John H. Smith
Born in Johnston a daughter of the late Pasquale and Clementina (Riccio) Pezzullo, she was a Rumford resident for over 60 years recently moving to Tockwotton on the Waterfront.
Elena was an administrative assistant in the Athletic department of Brown University for 22 years retiring in 1993.
She was a long time communicant of St. Margaret’s Church, a member of their choir and the St. Margaret’s Leisure Group.  She was a past president of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
She was also a member of Operation Warm Head Start at Woman & Infants Hospital.
She leaves two sons: Richard B. Smith (and his wife Diane) of Hope RI and Stephen H. Smith (and his wife Hilary) of Los Angeles and 5 grandchildren: Rachel, Lauren, Haley, Bridgett, and Cavan.  Sister of Eugene Pezzullo of Chepachet and Richard Pezzullo of North Scituate and the late Anthony W. Pezzullo.
The funeral will be held  Monday at 9am from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Calling hours Sunday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the R.I. Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907.
