On June 29th, 2024, Elaine M. Malo (Desorcy) devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at age 81 surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 13, 1942 in Pawtucket, RI, Elaine lived a life devoted to her loved ones, her work, and her community. She will be remembered as a bright light who’s spirit and generosity was felt by all those she encountered during her life journey.
Elaine was the cherished wife of Alvin R. Malo, with whom she shared over 59 years of loving marriage. She was the daughter of the late Roland and Marion (Merow) Desorcy. As a devoted mother she leaves behind a legacy in her children: Elaine Laquale of Lincoln, Keith Malo and his wife Denise of North Smithfield, and Patricia Campanella and her husband Michael of Providence. Elaine was the loving grandmother, “Grammy”, of 4 - Cassandra Malo, Jacob Malo, David Laquale and Michael Campanella, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She had a special bond with her nieces Dawn Driscoll, Heather Driscoll, Michelle Garrett and great niece/nephew Evan and Ashley Allard, all who affectionately called her “Gram”.
Elaine was predeceased by her five siblings, Roland Desorcy, Robert Desorcy, Marion Driscoll, Gloria Garrett and Jimmy Desorcy, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her dog Princess will also miss her love and companionship.
Elaine was a skilled solderer as she spent her life working in the jewelry industry and successfully opened her own business. She began her occupation at 16 working for a small jewelry shop where she learned her trade. Elaine and her husband Al later opened their business, AL-E Jewelry, which they operated together for 18 years. She enthusiastically cared for her grandchildren upon retirement.
Elaine’s gregarious spirit was larger than life and her presence was felt by all she encountered. Her special gifts of love, laughter, and generosity made people gravitate towards her. If you were in a crowded room, all you needed to do was follow the laughter to find her in the middle of it orchestrating the fun! Elaine’s nature of acceptance of all and her unmatched sense of humor made everyone feel important whether you were a family member, a friend, or a recent acquaintance. People of all ages gravitated toward her to enjoy the magic she brought to life. She was truly the life of the party that will forever be remembered and missed.
Elaine’s hobbies were cooking, baking, attending bingo’s near and far, and casino visits. Her love and generosity was felt by those who had the pleasure of receiving one of her legendary coffee cakes, cheese cakes, chocolate covered strawberries, amazing fried chicken cutlets or one of her “adult” chocolate pops. It was not unusual to return home from a vacation to find one of her home cooked meals waiting for you. During her retirement, she spent many years attending and/or organized/operating bingo/casino bus trips to various destinations.
Elaine’s final act of generosity was to donate her body to Brown University Medical School to advance medical science. After making this decision 30 years ago, along with her husband, she spoke of it with pride.
As we bid farewell to Elaine M. Malo, we celebrate a life well-lived, a woman well-loved, and a strong, gregarious presence that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace knowing that her life was one of profound impact, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family, friends, and her community.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Christian Memorial Mass on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00am, in St Raymond’s Church, 1240 North Main St, Providence, RI. Following the mass there will be a gathering to celebrate her life.
