Obituary for Edward J. Murray

Edward J. Murray, Sr., 61, of Middletown, RI, passed away on July 2, 2025, at home doing what he enjoyed—relaxing in his chair watching TV.

Born and raised in Rhode Island, Ed was the beloved son of the late James J. Murray II and Nancy E. Murray, and brother of the late James J. Murray III. He graduated from Portsmouth High School ’82 and went on to work a wide range of construction jobs before finding a long-term home with Behan Bros., Construction. Over his 33 years there, he became more than just a coworker—he became family.

Ed was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, a deep admirer of his Irish heritage, and a lifelong Beatles fan. His encyclopedic knowledge of Beatles trivia was unmatched—he could outplay just about anyone, anytime, anywhere.

Ed is survived by his son, Edward “Eddie” Murray, Jr. (Nicky), and his beloved granddaughter Millie, whom he loved dearly and held close in his heart.

He is also survived by his siblings: Karen Moody (Eric), Robert Murray (Denise), Michael Murray (Jeanne), Abby Beardwood (Al), and Virginia Dionne (Scott); along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, former coworkers, and friends—far too many to name, but all remembered with affection.

In keeping with his wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Holy Name Church, 107 Camp Street, Providence, RI
