Obituary for Dorothy Haslam Comery
Dorothy (Haslam) Comery, 90, of Providence, died on Aug. 13, 2011. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Comery.
Born and raised in Providence, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Charles R. Haslam and Florence (Newall) Haslam. She was the mother of Cynthia Comery Ferguson of Rumford and Elizabeth A. Comery of Providence, and the grandmother of Lily E. Ferguson of New York City. She was the mother-in-law of the late Stephen J. Ferguson.
Dorothy – known as Dot to her friends – cherished her memories of summers spent at Plum Beach in Saunderstown, R.I., first as a child and later as a young mother. She and her husband, Bob, lived in Providence until his retirement from Rhode Island College when they moved to Newport. There Dot developed many new friendships, pursued her lifelong passion for bridge, and operated a bed and breakfast out of her house on the ocean. She moved back to Providence a few years after her husband’s death in 1995.
A memorial service will be held at St. Martin’s Church, 50 Orchard Ave., Providence, at noon on Saturday, Aug. 20. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the R.I. Community Food Bank.
