Obituary for Doris R. Raffaele
Doris R. Raffaele, “Dee”, the artist as an esteemed author, playwright and two times Senior RI Poet Laureate, went to God Monday, April 14th, at home, encircled by her family, at the age of 90. Dee’s most current work, “The Sea Wench”,” has received public recognition through several state wide Theatrical Readings and is a testament to Dee’s vision, creativity and spirit.
Her influences in and around the community harken back to teaching at Bristol Community College, a Bi-line Columnist for New Bedford Standard Times, and a counselor for children’s artistic outreach programs for the Fall River Police Dept. While daily her world was filled with love, children and music.
This mother and Nana leaves behind the center of her world, three daughters, Christine A. Demers, Maj. Nina R. Petrarca; Holly M. Demers; and one son, Ret. Lt. Col. Steven S. Demers, along with eight beautiful grandchildren.
The celebration of Dee and her life’s passions will begin Thursday, April 17th at Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman St., Providence RI 02906 for friends to pay final respects between the hours of 4-8PM.
Services will be held Saturday, April 19th at 10AM at the Chapel located on the grounds of Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone BLVD., Providence, RI 02906 followed by laying her to rest at her final sanctuary of peace and beauty as she leaves this world. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Samantha's Way Organization 56 Ring Street, Providence, RI 02909
