Donna Gilda Ireland Holmes. July 3, 1955 – March 19, 2025
Donna Gilda Ireland Holmes was the beloved daughter of USMC Colonel James D. Ireland and Gilda W. Ireland. She is survived by her devoted husband, Tommy Holmes; her loving daughters, Erica I. Monteith and Caitlin I. Laura and her husband Adam C. Laura and her cherished grandchildren, Jack and Hunter Laura. Her brother Jimmy Ireland and his wife Robin Ireland and their children.
Donna’s love for her family was unwavering; “her girls” were the light of her life, and she found endless joy and pride in them.
Teaching brought her immense gratification, a passion that led her to The Wheeler School, where she dedicated herself to educating students from pre-k through 3rd grade for 28 years and made some of her dearest, lifelong friends. She was deeply fulfilled by witnessing the moment a child’s understanding “clicked,” always prioritizing kindness and respect in her classroom.
Beyond teaching, Donna was committed to charitable work, not only through personal involvement but also by instilling a sense of community service in her students—a legacy that continued even after her retirement in 2016. She actively supported Amos House as well as Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, and breast cancer awareness initiatives.
When she wasn’t teaching and giving back to her community you could find her at the beach with her family enjoying the warmth of the sun, the sound of the waves, and the laughter of her loved ones.
Donna’s compassion, dedication, and unwavering generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
A private service will be held on April 2, 2025 in East Providence, R.I.
