Diane Elaine (Preble) Somers, a free spirit and loving soul, passed away peacefully in her Johnston, Rhode Island home on February 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with a long illness. She was 73. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on January 17, 1952, Diane was the daughter of the late Dorothy Galligan Preble and Milton Atwood Preble.
Surrounded by the love of her family and the compassionate care of the Hope Hospice team, Diane departed this world with grace and tranquility.
Diane's legacy lives on through her children: Dwayne Preble, Ty Terry, Tyais Terry, and Paul Somers. She was predeceased by her beloved children, Shilo Terry and Stephan Somers. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Mason Costa, Taylor Delbou, Keirra Preble, Colby Preble, Noah Somers, and Penny Somers.
Diane leaves behind her siblings: David Preble, Dorothy Ruiz and Pamela Winslett, and will join her late siblings, Theresa Galligan, Nancy Mastrostefano, Christopher Preble, Rosalie Preble, and Sandra Ciccone. She held a special bond with her niece, Jules, whose frequent visits brought her immense joy, and she held a deep respect for her mother-in-law, Belmira Somers.
Diane's life was a tapestry woven with adventure and creativity. Growing up in Rhode Island, she later ventured to Massachusetts, residing in Boston, Fall River and Somerset, before returning to Rhode Island in 2012 to live with her daughter.
A true artist at heart, Diane expressed her vibrant spirit through rock and roll photography, capturing the energy and passion of the music she loved. Her creative talents extended to crafting and painting, where she transformed ordinary materials into extraordinary works of art, turning "trash into treasure" and blank canvases into stunning masterpieces.
Diane possessed a rare gift for connecting with people. Her kindness and genuine empathy drew others to her, and even strangers felt compelled to share their life stories with her. She was admired and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Diane's memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends. Her gentle spirit, artistic soul, and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed. May she rest in eternal peace.
