Surrounded by her family, Carolyn Steere Hurdis died at home in Narragansett on February 9, 2021. She lived an extraordinary life; always leading with a kind and open heart, an unwavering sense of compassion and an adventurous and playful spirit
Born in Providence, RI on April 7, 1941 to Anthony Andrew Steere and his wife Betty (Wells) Steere, she is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, David A. Hurdis of Narragansett, and by her three children, Daniel, Andrew (Hilary), and Rebecca (Ziad). She also leaves behind her 5 grandchildren: Nina (18), Vaughn (15), Elliott (14), Bella (14), and Clara (9). She is also survived by her brother Anthony Steere, Jr. and sister Diane Nobles.
A 1963 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Carolyn was a dedicated, engaged and innovative guidance counselor for many years in public schools in Howard County, Maryland and Norwich, Connecticut. After she retired, she was extremely active with local non-profits. Throughout her life, she was an avid runner, sailor, and cross-country skier. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time when conditions permit.
