Obituary for Carolyn (Briggs) Cumming
Carolyn Cumming, (Briggs) 103, of Providence died March 27 at her home. She was the wife of the late John S. Cummings, Jr. and Dr. Harry E. Darrah.
Born in Providence, A daughter of the late Horace I and Alice (Clark) Briggs. She was a Providence resident for fifty years before moving to Adamsville, RI in 1965. Carolyn graduated from Lincoln School and Bradford College.
She was a life member of Central Congregational Church, a member of the Little Compton Garden Club, Agawam Hunt, Acoaxet Club and the Elephant Rock Beach Club. Her hobbies included gardening, knitting, needle point and quilting.
She is survived by her son, Stephen C. Darrah and his wife Wanda of Powhatan, VA, 2 grandsons, Stephen C. Darrah and his wife of Amy of Mosley, VA and Gregory B. Darrah and his wife Stefanie of Sacramento, CA, her great grandchildren, Blair, Conan, Brody, Bridget and Olivia. She was the mother of the late Peter B. Darrah.
“Carolyn was truly a unique individual whose kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity were known by all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be missed.” A private graveside service for the family was held in Swan Point Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 30, at 11am in Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell Street, Providence to which relatives and friends are invited.
