It is with great sadness that the family of Bruce Raymond Carey announce his passing. Bruce, born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1946, was the son of the late Raymond H. Carey and Margaret (Krall) Carey. He lived in Hilton Head, South Carolina and previously in Providence, Rhode Island and Waterman Lake, Gloucester, Rhode Island.
Bruce attended LaSalle Academy and Providence College, both located in Providence, Rhode Island. Later, he served in the army as a second lieutenant beginning in 1968 at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Virginia. He was discharged from the army in 1970 from Fort Devon’s, located in Shirley, Massachusetts, as a second lieutenant in the commissary program.
Bruce began his career as a CPA with the firm of Ward Fisher. Subsequently he was the founding partner of Carey, Charland and Marciano. Bruce was very involved with St. Sebastian’s church located on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. Additionally, Bruce enjoyed skiing, fishing at the family’s lake house home on an island, and he had a great love of and appreciation of cars. Later, after building an all-year-round house on the island, Bruce worked very hard to maintain the house and property. One of Bruce’s greatest joys, along with his wife Anne, was to pile the dogs into their boat and cruise around Waterman’s Lake. Bruce, with his wife, enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and various parts of the United States.
Years ago, Bruce and his family had a St. Bernard dog named Chester. As time went on Anne and Bruce fell in love with Irish Setters. Their most recent ones, named Clayton and Finley, provided him with great joy and happiness. Bruce loved and cherished his daughters and granddaughters.
Bruce is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Anne Carey of Hilton Head, South Carolina. As well, he is survived by his two adoring daughters, Kelleher Gray of Weston, Massachusetts and Daria Carey of Cumberland, Rhode Island. Bruce had three loving granddaughters, Emerson Gray, Cecelia Gray, and Margaret Gray, all from Weston, Massachusetts. In addition, Bruce had many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law that were a significant and loving part of his life. Bruce was the brother of the late Paula Carey of East Greenwich and the nephew of Monsignor Carey from St. Paul’s Parish in Cranston, Rhode Island.
