Ann M. Doherty, 83, died Tuesday, May 16, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice in Providence with beloved family members at her side. She was a lifelong resident of Providence, her self proclaimed cherished city. Ann aka Nancy was predeceased by her mother, Catherine Flynn Doherty, and her father, William Doherty.
Ann was an elementary school teacher for twenty-five years in the Warwick School System and helped facilitate the Gifted School Program at Park School. She was a graduate of St. Xavier’s Academy and Salve Regina University and obtained her graduate degree from the University of Minnesota and Rhode Island College. She was a Sister of Mercy for ten years, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa, an honor society for women educators, and an alumni board member of St. Xavier’s Academy.
She leaves behind beloved cousins and lifelong friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 19th, at 10:00 a.m. St. Raymond’s Church, North Main Street, Providence. Friends and relatives are invited to attend beginning at 9:30 a.m.
She loved animals and especially Jonquil, her beloved cat. Donations in her memory may be made to Providence Animal Rescue League, 3 Elbow Street, Providence, R.I. 02902
