Obituary for Alice M. Kearney
Warwick: Alice M. (Sweeney) Kearney, 90, died Sunday at the Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William F. Kearney.
Born in Providence a daughter of the late P. John and Elizabeth (Daley) Sweeney, she was a Warwick resident for 15 years previously living in Cranston.
She was a graduate of St. Xavier’s Academy and Katherine Gibbs, and a member of the St Xavier’s Alumni Association. She was a former member of the Immaculate Conception Rosary and Altar Society and a long time Eucharistic Minister at Immaculate Conception, St Gregory’s Church and Rhode Island Hospital. Besides spending time with her family she enjoyed volunteering for the MS Society, Down Syndrome Society, McAuley Ministries and Special Olympics.
She was the beloved mother of her son: William F. Kearney, Jr. and his wife Fredda, of Seekonk; 6 daughters: Elizabeth A. Kearney of Cranston, Alice M. Sasso and her husband Joseph of Stonington, CT., Kathleen M. Kearney of Warwick, Paula J. Regan of Cranston, Patricia M. Peacock and her husband David of Warwick and Marianne Chase and her husband Edward of Mansfield, MA. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to her grandchildren: Michael, Karen, Caitlin, Laura, Rebecca, Christina, Nicole, Matthew, Alexandria, Joseph and Marissa and 3 great grandchildren: Abigail, Harper and Cooper. She leaves her brother John T. Sweeney and his wife Barbara of Swampscott, MA, sister in laws Stacia Sweeney of Attleboro, MA; Catherine Kearney of South Kingstown and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert E. Sweeney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10am in St Gregory Church, Cowesett Rd., Warwick to which relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours Wednesday4-7pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman St., Providence. Donations in her memory may be made to the Down Syndrome Society of R.I., 99 Bald Hill Rd., Cranston, R.I. 02920 or to Scalabrini Villa for the Dukcevich Garden, 860 North Quidnessett Rd, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
