Obituary for Alexander "Sandy" Mallace
Alexander D.(Sandy) Mallace of Providence and Pasadena, CA passed away suddenly on Friday, March 9, 2018. He was the son of Malcolm Mallace and Beatrice Dunn Gifford.
Sandy graduated from South Kent School in 1948, and the University of Rochester in 1952. Before beginning his career in banking, Sandy served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. His banking career at JP Morgan & Company spanned 34 years. It included responsibilities as a vice president at Morgan Guaranty Trust in New York where he was a unit head for corporate lending. He retired in 1989 after an extended assignment to JP Morgan & Co.'s Los Angeles office where he was a managing director focusing upon corporate finance.
He was very involved in the community; the Pasadena Library, the Pacific Asia Museum and La Casita Foundation.
He was predeceased by his first wife Josephine Lee Betner. He married his current wife Maria Luz Simon in 1983. He was devoted to his two step-children, Gregory Simon and Mercedes Simon Meserve. He also leaves two sisters Mary Jean Freeman (MIMI) and Phebe Gifford Howland, both of Providence. His strong sense of commitment to community family and friends was unwavering and will continue to guide his family. The interment will be at Swan Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the South Kent School 40 Bulls Bridge Rd., Kent, CT 06757.
