Obituary for Abel Perez
Abel Perez, 58, of Swansea, MA went to visit the Lord after a long battle with cancer on Nov. 17, 2019. Abel was born on March 31, 1961 in Manhattan, NY to Ramon Perez and the late Carmen (Mercado) Perez.
At age 15, he relocated to Rhode Island and attended North Kingstown High School and later obtained a degree in Business from CCRI. For several years, he worked for the Visiting Nurses Association of RI. Prior to his retirement, Abel worked at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol for 18 years, where he aimed to put a smile on the faces of elderly and disabled veterans through his talent for storytelling.
Abel was involved in many political activities. In the 1980s, he campaigned for RI state senate and served as Tiverton town sargeant. He also participated in many philanthropic endeavors throughout his life, such as volunteering at the Fall River Food Pantry. Abel had a love for religion (to the point where he became a certified minister) and he dabbled in various different spiritual communities, until ultimately becoming a member of the Somerset United Methodist Church.
Abel was preceded in death by his older sister, Brunilda “Chi Chi” Perez. He is survived by his two daughters: Jerrica Berger and Sydney Perez, his companion: Gina Stanzione, and his 3 grandchildren. He also leaves behind sisters Carmen Gonzalez, Ada Colon, and Marta Perez, a brother, Raymond Perez, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a remembrance ceremony at Somerset United Methodist Church on Dec. 8, 2019 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Southcoast Center for Cancer at Charlton Memorial Hospital and/or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
