Raymond R Bagley, 87, of North Providence, RI , passed away at Miriam Hospital on Sunday, January 10 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marie (Phillips) Bagley.
Ray was a veteran of WWII having served in the European Theatre for three years from 1943 to 1946. He was a 1947 graduate of Providence College and became a CPA in 1955, continuing his accounting practice until 2008. Ray joined the faculty at Providence College as a professor in the Business Department in 1955 and taught for 42 years. During his years at PC he touched thousands of students’ lives. Teaching was his life and he loved it. 1n 1992 he was honored with the outstanding faculty award by the PC National Alumni Association.
He was active in the PC athletic department and became the basketball courtside “Voice of the Friars” as the public address announcer in 1966 at Alumni Hall continuing to the Providence Civic Center until 1995.
He was an avid golfer, sailor, and traveler with his wife Marie. Ray was a former member of Pawtucket Country Club and treasurer of Louisquisett Country Club.
Besides his wife of 61 years he is survived by three sons, Keith and David of Warwick, Kevin of Derry, NH and daughter Janice Boutin of Uxbridge, MA. He is also survived by his treasured daughters-in-law Mary, Joanne, and Karen, son-in-law Charles Boutin, and six grandchildren Matthew, Jill, Lauren, Kyle, Kayla, and Reid. He was the son of the late Raymond and Irene (Guibeau) Bagley and is also survived by his brother William of Centerville, MA and was the brother of the late Edward J Bagley of Shrewsbury, MA.
The Funeral will be held Thursday at 8:45 from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St. Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in St Pius Church, Eaton St. at 10:00 AM, followed by burial with Military Honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence. Calling hours Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence College Scholarship Fund or Little Sisters of the Poor, Pawtucket RI.
