Obituary for Russell T. Lambert
Russell Thomas Lambert, 54, of Amherst, MA passed away on 5/5/17. Russell was born, raised and was a long time resident of Pawtucket, RI.
Has was the son of the late Henry Donald and Rita Mary (Polion) Lambert of Pawtucket, RI.
He was survived by his daughter April Lambert, 30 of Providence, RI; son Andrew Lambert, 27 of Florida; son Russell Thomas Lambert II, 20 of Florida; and Amberlyn Lambert, 18 of Warwick, RI and their mother Annemarie Lambert also of Warwick, RI.
Russell was also survived by his 7 siblings; Alan Lambert of Warwick, RI; Daniel Lambert of Raymond, ME; Michael Lambert of Putnam, CT; Douglas Lambert, James Lambert and Matthew Lambert all of Pawtucket, RI; and Melissa Medeiros of Homer, Alaska. He also left many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Russell worked at the Providence Fire Department for 13 years. He started in screen printing as a young boy and remained active in silk screen printing throughout his life in all phases of design, construction and printing. Russell had an eye for art from boyhood and he was active as a freelance artist of all trades throughout his life – he was an accomplished artist. His most recent artistic passion was serigraphs.
Russell was varied in his interest and a man of many talents. Anyone who knew Russ would not be surprised to see him riding his unicycle merrily along, he often drew in crowds of curious onlookers with his unique “unicycle art” and Russ was the kind of person that was always teaching and willing to let you give a try. Those who grew up with him will fondly remember the neighborhood races and jumps. He once lined 18 people up shoulder to shoulder and did a running jump over them, mostly clearing all bodies – slightly skimming the last.
He was an avid photographer and a lover of nature, lovingly tending to his bonsai tree and caring for the neighborhood community garden. He was a kind, patient and giving man that always made time to help those less fortunate than himself. He could often be seen in a neighbor’s yard raking leaves and helping the elderly with a task they were no longer capable of – that was just his way.
He played the Ukulele and brought joy to those fortunate enough to hear him strum out a tune. If he couldn’t find or afford what he was looking for he would construct his own. He was a gamer, loved games – mastered whatever he put his mind to.
Ever inquisitive, he thirsted for knowledge each day and he was always willing to pass on that knowledge – one only had to ask. Always an encouraging word and an eternal optimist – he recently said that he’s a daredevil who does everything he sets his mind to, yes he was and yes he did.
He will be forever in our hearts, although he is no longer here with us he will live on in the spirit of his children. We love you Russell, you were a gentle spirit who was taken from us far too early but you will never be forgotten – the lives you touched will never forget.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 13th at 1pm in the Redwood Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence to which relatives and friends are invited.
