Obituary for Rita M. Butler
Rita M. (Simpson) Butler, 95, died peacefully on March 18th at Villa St. Antoine in North Smithfield, RI. She was born in 1923 in Lawrence, Massachusetts and was the daughter of George F. and Anne Simpson.
She met her future husband when she was working at the Pentagon in Washington ,DC shortly after it was built. She was married to the late David A. Butler and spent her married life in Rhode Island more recently living in Cranston and Providence.
Mrs. Butler was a long time communicant of the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul in Providence, RI where she also volunteered for over sixteen years in the office of Bishop Louis Gelineau.
She was predeceased by her siblings Francis, Mary T. and William M. Simpson. She leaves several nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews. They include John R. Butler of Warwick RI, Janet Crook of Ct and Barbara Butler-Schmidt of Maryland. In addition her brother William’s children: Elizabeth Johansson of VT, William Simpson of VA, Jeanne Boothroyd of CT and Paul Stimpson of VT.
The funeral will be held Friday at 9am from the Funeral Home of Monahan Drabble & Sherman, 230 Waterman St, Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral, Cathedral Square at 10am, Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Donations may be made to the St Antoine Residence, 400 Mendon rd. North Smithfield, RI
