Obituary for Maria "Mia" Chliwner
Maria “Mia” Chliwner, 96, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Friday May 27th, 2022 at Bethany Home in Providence.
She is survived by her daughter Dr. Irene Chliwner (Robert Ferguson), granddaughter Amanda Way, niece Yolanta Geisler, and cousin Nanette Garner. She was predeceased by her husband Leon and brother Peter Geisler.
Maria was born in Warsaw, Poland and came to America in her 30's with her husband and daughter. They settled in New York City where she found work in the fashion industry and worked until the age of 85. She was an avid reader, knitter, and seamstress, and enjoyed traveling. After her husband died in 2011, she relocated to Rhode Island to be near her family, living at the Village at Waterman Lake, enjoying the company of her new friends there.
